YOU'RE THE CLOSEST TO HEAVEN THAT I'LL EVER BE ------------------------------------------------------------------------What the hell was he doing? Was he crazy? Crazy for going to go meet some random girl who started talking to him on the internet? What if she was really just a forty year old woman who was going to beat him over the head with her purse? Oh god…that’d be hell. Even if Raiden was a bit difficult, and rough, he had set up for a time to hang out. He was a man who kept his promises. And no matter what this girl was like, he would adhere to that. So he logged off of his IM, shut down his desktop, and walked into the bathroom. Quickly, the male slipped out of his jogging pants and boxers to take a five minute shower. After cleansing himself, he just lingered in the shower – enjoying the hot water relaxing his shoulder muscles. After he cut off the water, he opened the shower curtains and covered himself with a fresh towel. While his skin was freshly cleansed, he leaned over the sink and smothered his chin in shaving cream.
As he reached over to grab his razor, yet his hand came up empty. "Shit..." With the shaving cream all lathered over his skin, he walked out of the bathroom and stormed to Styxx. "Did you take my razor blade?" The canine huffed and walked off as Raiden simply rolled his eyes. "Dammit, Styxx! That's the second blade you've gnawed on!" He threw his hands up in the air and walked back to the bathroom. So now he'd have to go a bit uncouth. Great. "I might as well buy you a blade and shave you with it!" So he turned on the faucet and rinsed his face.
Raiden walked back to his room, his temper starting to calm. He slipped into a pair of jeans and just threw on a shirt. He didn't care anymore. He dried his hair, and brushed it as it fell into place. His hair was fine, and that was all that he really cared about. Hopefully this chick didn't care about first impressions. He wasn't exactly at his best, seeing as he couldn't properly shave the stubs on his chin.
Styxx had trotted into the room, just as Raiden slipped into a white belt. He latched it, and straightened the belt buckle out. Wow, normally he really didn't care what he looked like. But then again, he had no clue if this chick was about first impressions. So he had to be on the safe side. "I'm sorry, boy. I'll bring ya back some treats, alright? But I have to go. I'll be back soon." With that, he knelt down and wrapped his arms around the wolf's neck and held him in a tight embrace before standing up and grabbing his cell phone. As he walked out the door, he snatched his keys and locked his apartment before hopping into his truck.
Raiden could turn a thirty minute drive into a 10 minute trip. And that's pretty much what he did. He jumped on the highway and passed and dodged all the traffic to head to the donut shop. Sometimes, he'd imagine it all as a race. Thankfully no cops were here to stop him. Pulling into the parking lot, he quickly parked his truck in between two small cars. Making his truck look massive. He cut off the engine and exited his vehicle. He walked up to the shop's doors, and leaned against the wall - waiting.

everything feels like the movies caroline was a mess of nerves. her entire body felt like it was running on electricity. she felt like she might just spark at any moment and destroy whatever it was she was touching at the time. she was wringing her hands, trying to decide what she should do. it was by complete luck that she'd found raiden tonight, and in less than - she checked her watch - twenty five minutes, she could be stood face to face with him. he had no idea that she had been searching for him for six years. he had no idea that he had a family. he didn't have a clue she existed. caroline was beyond terrified; what if he didn't believe her, or worse, didn't like her? what if all of this had been for nothing and he didn't want her around. what if she'd fought with her parents for birth certificates and photos and baby scans all for nothing. luckily, caroline was not the kind of girl to go into a full size panic attack. instead, she gripped the door handle firmly and told herself to breath. in and out. slowly. when she felt calmer, caroline left her flat and started towards the doughnut shop. i'm going to meet my brother.
she arrived in just over twenty minutes, meaning she had a few moments to stand opposite the shop and truly compose herself. she had several things in her jacket pocket - her birth certificate, raiden's birth certificate, birth photos, baby scan images, her mother's passport (her old one, since her mother had recently renewed her current passport) and caroline's own passport, to prove she was who she said she was. then, he appeared. across the street she could see a man, around her age, waiting outside the doughnut shop. caroline held her breath and crossed the road, keeping her hands in her pockets and focusing on not running away. she's come this far and wasn't giving up now. she reached the man and immediately saw signs of similarity between him, her and their parents. caroline forced herself to act normal, smiling and holding her hand out to the 'stranger'. "raiden? i'm caroline." she said with a smile. she recognised him from the IM photo, so was sure she wasn't talking to a randomer. however, it wasn't simply that. she could feel the connection there. it was something new to her, as she'd never had any other siblings. "c'mon let's gorge on doughnuts." she said, laughing a little and leading into the doughnut shop, keeping a firm grip on her confidence.
at the till she quickly ordered a few ring doughnuts then stood back to let raiden order. "so, surname thief, birthday thief and age thief, where to?" she asked teasingly, smiling briefly again. she was beginning to get nervous though was trying not to let it show, one hand in her pocket while the other gripped her bag of doughnuts. the hand in her pocket gripped the two birth certificates tightly, whilst caroline tried to work out how on earth she was going to do this.

YOU'RE THE CLOSEST TO HEAVEN THAT I'LL EVER BE ------------------------------------------------------------------------Raiden started running ideas through his head, nearly scaring the shit out of himself. What if this girl really wasn't twenty one? Honestly, he didn't trust this. Maybe it was a mistake to invite someone to hang out...over the internet. And not only just over the internet, but after just a few minutes of talking. It's not like they've even been consistently talking...so he shoved his hands in his pockets. He had to stay. He's the one that proposed all of this. Stupid donuts. Why did he have to be a donut addict? Grrrr. He just hoped that this girl wasn't some sick old lady...
The male had just pulled out his phone to distract himself from his doubts when he heard his name. He lifted his head, with a peculiar expression masking his face. He usually was an open book when it came to expressions. It sucked at times, yet useful at the same time. As he shook her hand he simply said, "Hey." He stood in awe - this girl was really pretty. He was not attracted to her in anyway. He was just expecting an old lady...well this was good news. He couldn't help but allow a smile to creep on his lips as he opened the door for her to walk inside.
Following the girl inside, he stopped her from paying. He pulled out his credit card, ordered half a dozen chocolate covered donuts, and paid for the both of them. It was the least that he could do for her. After all, he had asked her to tag along. "Thief? No, dear. I believe you are the one that had stolen it all. I'm pretty original." With a deep chuckle, he walked towards the door and pushed it open. "Sitting outside would be best. It's nice out...and I don't like being surrounded by people."
Walking out side after her, he sat down at a nearby table. Wow. He bought donuts and didn't bother buying any drinks. "Do you want anything to drink?" He pulled out a donut, bit into it, and looked to her through his sunglasses. Without knowing it, he flipped his hair to the side so it'd be out of the way. He then pulled off his sunglasses, wanting to give the girl eye-contact. Even though he was horrible with it. But he'd get over it. He couldn't show any weakness. Not on a first meeting. Raiden gave a soft smile after he swallowed, starting to feel weird. How many people just talked on the internet and then met up? He wouldn't expect a lot...and now he was here with some random chick? Eating donuts, for god's sake. He felt like an idiot - he could have at least picked a place to eat a nice lunch or something.
Notes;; sorry, it's a pretty shitty reply. -facepalm- massive headache. x.x

everything feels like the movies The fact that he had paid bode well in Caroline's mind. He was some sort of gentleman at any rate. Caroline smiled to herself, as far as first impressions went, he wasn't doing too badly. She thanked him and followed him to sit outside, perching on one of the plastic chairs and taking one of her sugar coated doughnuts out of the paper bag. It was still slightly warm, which made it even nicer as Caroline started eating the dougnut, trying not to get too much sugar around her mouth. "People can be okay sometimes, but they do have a tendency to be equally suffocating." Caroline said in somewhat agreement. She crossed her legs, one over the other, and leant back in the chair. She had the air of complete comfort. She didn't give off any impression of being uncomfortable, though this was a well practised art. She'd grown incredibly good at disguising her thoughts due to spending the last five years hiding her emotions from her parents. She could sense that Raiden wasn't exactly comfortable with the situation, though she quickly realised that it was to be expected. After all, she knew who he was. She knew his birthday and where he was born and how much he had weighed and that he'd been put in a crib to the left of her in the maternity ward. Caroline felt like she knew him just because she knew he was her brother. Yet, to him, she was just a random girl off of the internet who had agreed to go and get doughnuts with him. Caroline wondered if he could feel the slight connection that she could feel. Just the feeling of kinship. She felt like they were the same, even though they were very obviously not. His rough life had an obvious impact on him, whilst she knew she looked very well kept and very well brought up. They were complete opposites in a lot of respects. She paused to think a moment before answering his question. "I'm alright for now. I might go get some water in a minute though, I'm not sure yet." she replied, finishing a doughnut and leaving the bag on the table for the time being. She licked the remaining sugar off of her lips and put her hands in the pockets of her jacket. "So... D'you do this often? Go and get doughnuts with random girls off of the internet?" she asked in a tone that was obviously teasing. "Or do they have to have 'stolen' several personal attributes from you first?" she continued to sound a little teasing, obviously joking. Caroline preferred joking conversation to serious conversation in a situation like this. It was easier to put on a smile and make fun of things, than to think about bridging the subject that she had been waiting for years to talk about. After five years of searching, Caroline couldn't believe she was considering bottling out at the last minute. Her shoulders were a little more tense than they were before now that she had her fists clenched in her pockets. Her mind was briefly angry at her parents for forcing her into a situation in which she had to do this. After all, he's never had family by the sounds of it. What makes you think he's going to want one now?. outfit.

YOU'RE THE CLOSEST TO HEAVEN THAT I'LL EVER BE ------------------------------------------------------------------------Raiden started to lean back in his chair, tempted to shove half the donut in his mouth. Although, to this girl, that may not be very appropriate or proper. So he kept himself as civil as possible - as hard as it may be. When was the last time he had to watch everything he did? He couldn't remember. Usually he was by himself, or with friends, so he didn't have to worry about impressions. "That's very true. But I'd rather not be around so many people. Don't trust them." The male shrugged, as if it were no big deal. It was, but he wasn't about to go there.
Jealousy started to sting him slightly, as the girl had seemed totally comfortable. He couldn't stop thinking about how weird the situation was, but at the same time it was just...natural. There was something quite peculiar about her. He didn't know what it was, but it was most definitely...different. After finishing his donut, he rested his hands behind his head and continued to lean the chair back. "Oh, totally. I just love a good thrill of taking internet chicks out for donuts, dear." He laughed, starting to relax as he nearly fell backwards from leaning back too far. Quickly he leaned forward and clung to the table. His cheeks started to flush slightly out of embarrassment as he made sure his hair was in place.
Raiden allowed a rich laugh to erupt in the pit of chest at the female's second statement. "Wait...it's like...I'm the boy version of you, and you're the girl version of me...that's...weird..." He gave a curious expression as he started to lean back in his chair once more - without realizing it of course. "So...I just have to ask. Why did you just randomly chat with me? I have nothing against it, I'm simply curious."
Okay, so this meeting wasn't as bad as he thought it'd be. Half of him was relieved, half of him didn't like being wrong about the situation. Raiden did not like being wrong. But this was an exception...because she was who she said she was. And everything was fine. She should be the one scared of him...not the other way around. For all she knew, he could have been this big burly guy who was gonna bring her harm. But neither of them were lying, and everything was going to be just fine. So why did it continue to linger in the back of his mind? There was just something...something about her. As if he'd seen her, knew her before. No, that was preposterous. Impossible. He shook himself from all of these thoughts. Raiden plus thinking...usually never ended too well.
"I'm terribly sorry if this sounds weird to you, but if I don't ask...I'm gonna blow up." The male looked down for a few moments, gathered himself, then returned his gaze to Caroline. "Is it me, or is there just something natural about us two hanging out? Like...I don't know. I kind of feel like I know you, but I've never met you." Way to sound like a total idiot...oh well. He got the point across. That's all that mattered.

everything feels like the movies caroline laughed as he casually replied to her comment with the exact sarcasm she had anticipated. she couldn't help drawing comparisons between the two of them. before she'd dyed her hair they both had the same hair colour, and she was sure their eyes were the same too. unlike most twins they lacked the fact that they looked identical due to being different genders, but the similarities were there for anyone who wanted to look hard enough. she tried to stop herself from laughing as raiden began to fall back, but ended up producing a sound closer to a snort. this of course, set her laughing completely for a few seconds, as well as blushing. she was normally a lot more ladylike than that. maybe raiden was bringing out the more casual in her.
raiden's comment struck a nerve with caroline. she took a moment to recover from the shock of his comment. it wasn't a composed moment either - it was probably incredibly obvious that she was a little uncomfortable for a few seconds before she regained her composure. she didn't really respond to his statement in any other way. she refused to lie to him outright, but there would be no way to reply to him that wouldn't immediately reveal the truth and she didn't want raiden to run from her just yet. however, he wasn't about to let the point go. caroline bit her lip and rocked back on her own chair, keeping her feet on the ground in the process to make sure she didn't fall back. "did you ever have... a birth certificate..?" she asked, her hands clenched around the very document in her pocket. she took out the wad of papers but kept them in her lap for a moment, waiting for raiden's response. "because... well.. i've.." caroline let her head drop down for a minute, trying to gather herself. her breath was shaky; she was shaking, she realised. she felt as if her body was going into panic. she no longer felt sure if she could do this.
caroline looked up again, steeling herself for the next thing she'd say. she took a deep breath and put the wad of papers on the table. "i think i can provide you with some answers..." she said, her voice still shaking a little. "but i really can't guarantee you'll like them. or me. i'm just asking that you please, please, don't completely hate me. i've been looking for you for too long to handle that." she was scared now, and it was obvious. her composed mask was gone. this was a sister, trying desperately to make sure she didn't lose her brother before she'd even had a chance to have him.
ooc. i know it's a bit short but i'm letting raiden have a bit of a talk before she drops the bombshell. (:

YOU'RE THE CLOSEST TO HEAVEN THAT I'LL EVER BE ------------------------------------------------------------------------The male shifted in his chair after he balanced himself out, and couldn't help but stifle his own laugh at his stupidity. He then calmed himself and leaned forward, against the table, to fiddle with his sunglasses. He put them on, then took them off, and repeated this process a few times. After distracting himself for a few good moments, Raiden put the sunglasses down and lifted his head to look up at the girl. He could see that he made her uncomfortable, and that was not his intention. "Look, I didn't mean to offend you or make you feel weird..." He stopped himself. His words probably weren't of much help - he'd already made her shift in her seat.
The male quirked at brow at Caroline, his birth certificate? No...he didn't have it. He wish he did, but he expected that his real parents or one of the shelters he grew up in had it in their possession. He wish he did have it - it was very difficult for him to have even a sliver of a normal life without it. For example, at sixteen, he wasn't allowed to own a drivers license because he had no proof of identity. But why the hell was she bringing this up...? He sighed heavily, and lowered his head. "I am...without my birth certificate." He looked back up again, upon hearing the brokenness, the shakiness in her voice.
"Answers? What kind of answers to what kind of questions?" As soon as he saw the papers on the table, he freaked. His eyes widened in fear as he scooted his chair back a little. "You're not with the FBI are you? Do you work for the government? I swear on my life I haven't done anything." He wanted to run, to bolt out of here and avoid this girl for the rest of his life. Until...she had said - with sincerity - that she didn't want him to hate her. Ducking his head in embarrassment, he twiddled his thumbs. "I won't hate you. Just tell me what's going on. Be honest with me, and I have no reason to hate you."
Raiden stood from his chair, and moved to sit next to the female. He was reluctant, yet he wrapped an arm warmly around her shoulder. He wanted her to know that no matter what, as long as she gave him the truth, he wouldn't hate her. He wouldn't run from her. He could see it in her body language, hear it in her voice, that that's what she did not want. And words were words. He had to show her, comfort her, let her know he would be true to his word. "Looking for me?" he had whispered softly. "For how long?" Now he felt as if he had a stalker...and this of course freaked him out even more. But he couldn't let it show. This girl was already going through her own battles, and he wasn't about to make those any worse.

everything feels like the movies Caroline looked at the papers on the table, wondering how they'd gotten on to this subject so soon. She didn't want to only have this one meeting with him. Caroline would have rather met him several times, been able to get to know him, then tell him. However, how was he ever going to stick around if they'd been talking one day and she threw this news at him? His answer confirmed what she had thought; she had the only copy of Raiden's birth certificate. Would this be enough proof for him? She agonised over the issue in her head for several minutes, letting Raiden talk next to her. At first she thought he seemed curious, before he seemed terrified. She choked out a laugh as he accused her of being FBI. ”Ha! I'm far from the FBI.” she replied, staring at the papers still, mentally cursing her parents for making her face this. He wanted honesty? Caroline was about to be as honest as it was humanly possible to be. She, and the goddess that she had supposedly been in another life, valued honesty highly. She would never have been able to lie to Raiden. Her shoulders tensed as he laid his arm across them and Caroline sucked in a quick breath. For the first time in her entire life, she was actually touching her brother. Despite how misconstrued that statement could have been, the fact she was touching him meant that he was in fact real. She didn't need papers or photographs or science to prove it, she just felt it. ”I've been looking for you since.. Since we were sixteen. That's when I found out about you.” she said, reaching for the documents on the table and sorting through them until she found the two yellow documents that were their birth certificates.
She unfolded hers first, her hands shaking uncontrollably. Then, next to hers, she laid out Raiden's. The hospitals in which they were born was the same, as was their date of birth and most importantly their parents. Caroline didn't say anything, simply waiting for Raiden to take in the sheets in front of them. When he said nothing, Caroline stood up slowly, her entire body feeling wobbly and crossed her arms over her chest. ”I know it's weird and crazy and that you probably won't believe me and that I'm so many years late that you should never forgive me for it...” she said in one breath, before her voice broke and she couldn't continue. Caroline was overcome with an emotion she couldn't name. Her body was running on a rush of adrenalin and fear and sugar. ”I was born a couple of minutes after you. I was smaller than you by a lot and I guess I looked like I'd need the protection...” she was now regurgitating the reasons her parents had given her for picking her over Raiden. ”If I'd had any idea.. I would've made them get you... I would, I promise.” she said, her voice shaking as her nerves started breaking through. She had no clue how Raiden was reacting. ”I've got loads more proof... But I guess I thought.. Well, your certificate is your right.. You can keep it..” she continued. ”Even if I don't mean anything, you deserve to know who you are.”

YOU'RE THE CLOSEST TO HEAVEN THAT I'LL EVER BE ------------------------------------------------------------------------The male allowed himself a slight smile as Caroline confirmed she wasn't a part of the FBI. That was extremely relieving. He had run into them in the past, and he wasn't planning on doing so again. His smile had quickly faded as he watched the female, not creepily, but curiously. Raiden didn't know how to handle all of this. He'd never been in the position where he felt the need to comfort someone. He just wasn't one of those go-to guys. But then again, this was a different story. Here he was, scared out of his mind. He had absolutely no clue what was going on. Although, Caroline seem just as scared, if not more. So he played it cool. He calmed himself - he really didn't want her to see him scared.
As soon as he felt her shoulders tense, he snapped his arm back. The male didn't want to make her feel uncomfortable, and putting his arm around her shoulder must have been too much. He looked away, slightly embarrassed. "Looking for me? Since we were sixteen?" Raiden caught on fast. He had an idea of who she might be...considering she had said we. And the fact that they had the same last name. And were born on the same day. 'No, it can't be...' He shook his head. No. This is just preposterous. His chocolate brown hues lingered to the unfolded papers that Caroline laid out. He hesitated before leaning forward and examining them.
Raiden ran his left hand through his hair, tugging and nearly pulling a handful out of is head. These...birth certificates had just proven what idea he had in mind. He could feel tears form at the brim of his eyes. He actually had a sister! And she was sitting right next to him. He swallowed and held back the tears as that happiness quickly refueled itself into red hot anger. He only heard half of what the girl said, until his anger just took over him. Raiden stood, flipping his chair over and walking a few steps away from the table. "Why the fuck is this just happening now?" How could this happen? He just started his life. A normal life. He had a job, he actually made it through high school, he lived in an apartment...he did everything on his own. Without anyone else. No help. So why would she just show up now?
Turning around, he rested his gaze on Caroline. So much for trying not to freak her out...he probably just fucked all that up. He walked back to the table, and picked up the chair that he had thrown. He calmed himself as much as he possibly could, for her sake. He could understand why she looked for him. Any sibling would if they had the chance to find their missing family member, right? He sat down and sighed. He wasn't mad at her. She came out all this way just for him. Their parents on the other hand...he wanted nothing to do with them. Ever. "Look, I don't want you to think that I hate you," he sighed, trying to recollect himself. "I believe everything, because...well you've got all the proof. Not much I can deny anyway."
He hated himself for this. It wasn't a coincidence that he ended up talking to Caroline randomly online. It wasn't a coincidence that they shared the same surname, and birthday. This was legit. This was real. Part of him believed that this was true. This was real. The other part of him just couldn't latch on to the fact that he was inches away from his sister. Not a friend that he was close enough to in order to call them sister. But sister by blood and flesh. And as much as he wanted to deny it, it was relieving to know that someone was looking for him. It meant...that he was worth more than he thought. He wasn't just a bum trying to get by. He wanted to keep the tough skin up - to tell everyone he didn't care about whoever his family was. He did care. Hell, it was the reason why he was so pissy all the time. He couldn't help it. How would anyone else feel, if they started to count the reasons why their parents would just abandon them?
"I'm glad you came..." he whispered, as he hugged Caroline without any reluctance. He had a sister. A real sister. He wanted to cry, out of happiness. But at the same time, he wanted to punch a brick wall. How could a mother and father just abandon their child? "Let's get one thing straight. Whoever my parents are, I don't want to talk to them. Talk about them. Think about them. I don't need them. If they want to talk to me, they'll come to me. Other than that, I don't care." He squeezed her in his arms, hoping she'd understand just a little bit how he felt. He didn't want to offend her by saying that he didn't want to meet their parents. They could be the nicest people on the face of the earth. But if they didn't take time to find out who he was, than he didn't need them.
