I AM MY OWN AFFLICTION I AM MY OWN DISEASE THERE AIN'T NO DRUG THAT THEY COULD SELL - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -The male wore a foolish grin as he walked around aimlessly, not worrying about how he was going to get back to his apartment as he wandered near the pier. His heart thumped against his ribs as he wandered around, taking in the beautiful smell of California's ocean. Although Raiden had lived in Roseneath for a while, he had never bothered to visit the pier. Hell, he never bothered to find out where it was. Well, he was here. Might as well give it a try. Even if it was late at night.
Ten o'clock at night. The male's footsteps softly padded against the wood on the pier. Occasionally he'd step on a loose board, making it groan beneath him. Although he came to a halt in the middle of the pier, and pulled off his pair of Reef flip flops. He bent down, grasped them, and continued on his merry way. A gentle breeze wrestled with his soft brown locks as he stood at the end of the pier - gazing out to the Pacific Ocean. Damn. The water was beautiful. He sat, letting his long legs dangle over the edge. The crystal water tickled his toes, causing him to chuckle to himself. It was a really relaxing setting. Today, had just been a good day.
Raiden lifted his feet out of the water, stood, and emptied his pockets. He laid his belongings - consisting of his watch, wallet, apartment keys, cell phone, and a couple of coins - down a few good feet away. He then tugged off his v-neck and closed his eyes, letting the ocean's breeze beat against his bare torso. After a long pause, he stood at the edge of the pier once more. Debating whether to jump in or not. It was tempting, but at the same time he hadn't brought an extra outfit to change into.
He sat back down on the edge, being a coward and deciding to just watch the waves. Wearing a foolish grin, the male just recollected the day's events. He woke up, and walked to Dunkin Donuts. Ordered three chocolate glazed donuts and a coffee. That was sign number one that it was a good day. Then, he had received a good text from an ex. Good, in the sense that he would never have to talk to her again. No more drama. He stopped himself there - he didn't want to make himself too excited. That would just open him up too much for a beat down if something terrible happened tomorrow. And that just can't happen.
His brown hues fluttered shut as he allowed himself to lay backwards with his hands resting behind his head. Raiden knew he probably looked retarded. But oh well. If anyone came along, he expected that they would leave him alone. He liked being alone. Very quiet. He wouldn't have to worry about anyone but himself. Woah, selfish much? He let a deep chuckle erupt in the pit of his throat as the waves tickled the bottom of his feet.

IT DOESN'T SEEM FAIR that your wicked words are workin' at holding me down The pier was normally a nice, peaceful place. However, the anger resonating from one particularly feisty twenty year old woman was threatening to disrupt the peace.
Melanie hadn't requested to be dropped off at the pier. However, she was not about to continue along with the dumb fuck cab driver that she'd hitched a ride with. She thought she detected alcohol on his breath when she first entered the cab, and her suspicions were only proven true when he seemed unable to keep his vehicle on the road and nearly ran over a pedestrian. Melanie was never one to sit quietly, and thus she'd voiced her complaint to the cab driver. In hindsight, it was probably a bad idea to call him a pathetic drunk and a baby killer, as it probably had something to do with why she was dumped off on the side of the road near the pier, but she hated drunk drivers. Alcohol was fine by her. But anyone who drove while intoxicated needed to be shot for their stupidity.
Fortunately the young woman had recorded down the phone number on the side of the cab so that she could notify the driver's employers of their associate's lack of professionalism. She decided that it was perhaps best if she attempted to calm down a bit before this happened. Fortunately, her apartment was located not too far from the pier, but it was still the principle of the thing.
Melanie leaned against a light pole and closed her eyes, taking a deep breath. Melanie could already feel her tense muscles relaxing as the adrenaline levels in her blood decreased to their normal levels. While she was at the pier, she might as well take advantage of it. She wasn't about to let some drunk idiot ruin her night, no matter how much of a grudge she was holding against him.
The brunette walked along the pier, smiling as the light ocean breeze blew her hair. As she reached the end of the pier, she noted a figure laying face up toward the stars. She might have assumed the figure was merely sleeping had she not heard a deep chuckle emit from his throat. This chuckled caused Melanie to take a closer look, and thus recognize the figure between her and the end of the pier. "What's got you in such a good mood? Get laid already? You're starting off earlier and earlier." Melanie teased. She knew of Raiden's reputation, and prided herself on being one of the few girls he hadn't slept with.
She did have to admit, though, that as she saw him lying there shirtless she could see what other girls saw in him. He did have a nice, chiseled figure. "Nice pecs, by the way." Melanie noted as nonchalantly as if she were merely indicating the weather was sunny. This was all intentional, of course. She didn't want him to get any ideas.

I AM MY OWN AFFLICTION I AM MY OWN DISEASE THERE AIN'T NO DRUG THAT THEY COULD SELL - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -As the male calmed himself, he tuned himself out and gently listened to the gentle waves crashing against the pier. He shifted a little bit further, allowing the waves to lick his feet more so than tickle his skin. He hadn't had a night to himself like this in a long time. And honestly, as he hated to admit it, he enjoyed hanging around the ocean. Normally he wouldn't associate himself with the beach, seeing as it was always an archetype for romance in movies. Raiden wasn't one for romance. It was way too over-rated. He just didn't roll that way.
Raiden's brown hues flickered open, his muscles tensing as he felt another presence. Before he could turn around to see who else was here, a female's voice invaded the silence. He looked up, seeing Melanie's figure before laughing and closing his eyes once more. "Well hello to you too, sweetheart." The male lightly shook his head, then sat up and stretched his upper torso. "If you must know, dear, I'm happy because I haven't gotten laid. I'm getting tired of it. The little angel on my shoulder told me I need to man up and stop being so immature." With a playful snarl, Raiden stood and turned around to face the girl. "But all that doesn't matter. I wouldn't take you to my bed anyway."
He offered a sly grin before turning back around and standing at the edge of the pier, standing there and letting the breeze take over him. Boy did that water look so inviting. He hadn't gone swimming in a while, and the waves just tempted him to jump in. He should have taken his chance earlier. Now he had to sit here and entertain Melanie. He didn't mind doing so at all...he just wanted to get in the water. "So what brings you out here? I'll be honest with you. I never thought you'd actually come and talk to me." He continued to face the ocean - he was never good with eye contact.
Raiden swayed lightly against the ocean's breeze taking a light step back so he wouldn't fall into the water. The longer he stared at the ocean, the more he got to thinking. Owning a boat would be pretty cool. He could take a few friends out and go tubing or wake boarding. Raid loved wake boarding...it was daring and adventurous. Plus, if he had a boat he could go fishing all he wanted...boy would his wolf, Styxx, love him if he brought home fresh fish for dinner. Nearly smacking himself to interrupt his thoughts, the male sat on the pier's edge and sighed. Another chocolate glazed donut sounded too fucking good right now.
"Woah woah woah there." Raiden swiftly turned, looking to Melanie curiously. "Did Miss Melanie McVayne just compliment me? Good Lord! I'm flattered!" He turned back around, a deep laugh vibrating in his throat. "Today just continues to get better and better." He allowed a childish grin to curve at the end of his lips as he glanced at the female, then quickly rested his gaze elsewhere.

IT DOESN'T SEEM FAIR that your wicked words are workin' at holding me down It did feel a bit strange, talking to a boy at the beach. It wasn't Melanie's typical scene either. If that drunk slob...
Melanie took another deep breath. She wasn't going to let that moron ruin her night. Somehow, though, she had a feeling she'd be reminding herself of that quite a bit tonight. Though it honestly depended on how well Raiden kept her attention. She was depending on him to offer a distraction, and he'd better live up to it.
"Sweetheart? Tell me, how many girls have you called that?" Melanie arched an eyebrow with a small smirk on her face. She wasn't looking down on him for it, contrary to what a stranger might think coming across this conversation. She accepted Raiden for what he was - After all, he was honest with himself about it, and Melanie highly valued honesty. She was still a tad shocked when Raiden admitted that he was happy that he hadn't been laid. "Really? Is Rairai finally growing up?" She replied in mock baby talk, a smile on her face the entire time. It was nice to be able to unwind with someone who could handle her sense of humor.
Her smile faded as Raiden claimed that he would not take her to bed. She clutched at her chest, and bit her lip, trying to make the most painful expression on her face as she possibly could. "I'm hurt Raiden. Really, I am." Honestly, she considered the fact that he wouldn't sleep with her like that an honor. To her, it meant that she was above these floozies.
"Well, if you're going to be honest with me, I might as well be honest with you. I didn't even see you laying here until I got closer." She grinned, putting her hand on her hips. "So don't let that stroke your ego too much." She really did enjoy talking to him, though. She enjoyed being around him in general. She just wasn't going to come out and admit it very easily
Melanie let out a light chuckle of her own. "I suppose I did. Don't get too used to it, though. It's a rare treat." The twenty year old shrugged, then gazed out at the ocean. "So, what brings you here? I'd like to pretend that I didn't get dumped off by a cab driver after calling him a bastard, but..." The corners of her mouth turned up into a smile. Bastard was probably one of the lesser barbs she'd thrown at him, to be fair.

I AM MY OWN AFFLICTION I AM MY OWN DISEASE THERE AIN'T NO DRUG THAT THEY COULD SELL - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -The male had turned around slightly, tapping the edge of the pier next to him - motioning for Melanie to take a seat next to him. He personally enjoyed being in her presence; it was really relaxing knowing he could truly be who he was and not be shunned for it. "Please, take a seat dear. I don't bite...normally." He winked to her playfully before turning his gaze back to the water. "And I only give pet names, such as sweetheart, to those I respect. Lucky you." He smirked, and rested his hands behind his form so he could lean his body back.
Whipping his head and tensing his shoulders to glare at Melanie, his voice held a bit of a rough tone, "Rairai? God, you know how I feel about nicknames." The male huffed and turned away from her to calm himself. Now really wasn't a great time to let his short temper bust. Especially since he really enjoyed being around the female. So he rubbed his face with his left hand and simply let it go. Relaxing his shoulders, he returned to leaning back and looked to her. Without knowing it, Raiden took in her slender figure, finding that her skin had a very nice glow to it - being reflected by the moon. She was pretty. No...more than that. Was beautiful a fitting word? He thought so. As soon as he realized what the hell he was doing, he rested his brown hues elsewhere.
Now that he couldn't bring himself to look at her again, he mentally kicked himself for being an idiot. Might as well remove her from whatever list she was beginning to be sketched on. It was a really weird feeling, having her here and all. He didn't know if it was good or bad, but he knew he had to snap out of it. She was untouchable. Not a girl who needed to spend time with a guy like him. He was just as low as the girls he slept with, if not lower. And he knew it. But he also knew he didn't deserve any better. Not with his background. Not with the type of man he was. Hmph. He couldn't even call himself a man.
Lifting his head to listen, he chuckled lightly - but couldn't bring himself to fake a smile. Now that he'd gotten to thinking, his mood dropped slightly. "Ha, you're hurt? If only you knew." He said nothing more, not going to open up anymore. Well, if she pried enough, she'd be able to open him up as easy as a book. But he wouldn't let her know that. Plus, she just might drop it anyway. He hoped so. Then again, he was never to great at hiding his emotions. Damn, this was all too weird.
Raiden casually leaned away from Melanie, distancing himself because he was starting to recognize what was happening. Fuck the world, was he...attracted to her? Of all people? Of course it'd have to be her. Miss Untouchable. The girl he could never have. And he knew for a fact that he couldn't. It would take a lot more than just a few habit changes to even be worth just a sliver of her time. Grrr...why did he keep reminding himself of how worthless he was? Oh, that's right. Because step one was that he wouldn't be able to get her out of his mind. Especially if she was freaking sitting right there.
"Aw, so you're not here to talk to me? You're just being nice because by the time you realized it was me, it was too late?" He laughed, raising a hand to run through his soft brown locks. Raid obviously didn't care if he messed up his hair or not. It was late at night. No one to impress...well that could be argued. He wasn't going to try to impress her. No. It'd be a waste of time. He knew he was out of the game. "You know, no one's keeping you here. You don't have to talk to me if you don't want." He shrugged his shoulders, as if it didn't matter. Although, deep deep deep down inside, it did.
Raiden lightly shook his head in disbelief as he leaned even further onto his elbow. "It really is an honor - thank you for your compliment. I'll make sure to return the favor and compliment you; although I won't do it now. You'll receive it when you least expect it, dear." Sitting back up, he stared at the water. God, he was so tempted to jump in. "Woah, back that up..." he brought himself to look at the female in concern. "Why would you call him a bastard?"

IT DOESN'T SEEM FAIR that your wicked words are workin' at holding me down Melanie smiled. "As long as you don't go turning me into a vampire or werewolf or anything." The young woman slipped off her flip flops and took a seat next to Raiden, letting her own feet dangle from the pier. Now that she was closer to Raiden, she found it hard not to notice the details of his physique. Of course, she was careful not to stare too long, as she did not want to arouse suspicion. Checking him out? Of course she wasn't checking him out! It was odd how she could be so forthcoming when it came to her opinions, yet when he came to attraction...
The brunette looked down toward her feet when she sensed Raiden's temper flaring. Sense wasn't exactly the right word, of course. She could simply tell by his body language. Perhaps she'd gone a bit too far with that one.
Melanie raised an eyebrow at his next comment. "If only I knew? What is that supposed to mean?" Her question did not have an accusatory tone to it...rather it was filled with pure curiosity. She hadn't expected such a statement from him, and it certainly had her wanting answers. However, she had a feeling that she'd have to work to get those answers, which was quite frustrating.
Yet somehow it drew her in...
Fortunately, she failed to notice that Raiden was moving slightly away from her, or she likely would have voiced her opinions on the matter. She usually did, and while sometimes it was a good thing, sometimes it landed her in trouble. This was how she'd found herself at the pier instead of her apartment in the first place. She didn't entirely regret it, however.
"No, I'm being nice because..." Melanie stopped herself at once, her eyes widening slightly. She couldn't believe what had been about to come out of her mouth. Was she really about to say that she was being nice to him because she liked him? That was such a loaded word. Melanie cleared her throat, realizing that Raiden would probably start to get suspicious of the silence. "I know no one's keeping me here. I'm keeping myself here because I found someone to talk to that is worth talking to." Now this was a compliment that she meant.
"When I least expect it? Great, I'll look forward to it." Melanie winked, then followed Raiden's gaze to the water. She was surprised to see him glance up at her once more. Normally Melanie had no qualms about telling people off, but something about the way Raiden asked her set off a slight blush in her cheeks! "I..." She paused. Why was she having such a hard time saying this? "He nearly got us killed several times, that's why." Melanie kicked at the water a bit with her feet, just to give herself something to do while she anxiously awaited Raiden's response.

I AM MY OWN AFFLICTION I AM MY OWN DISEASE THERE AIN'T NO DRUG THAT THEY COULD SELL - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -"Oh, but it'd be so much fun to have you as a werewolf," he noted as he faked a small pout. Honestly, a part of him always thought it'd be cool to be a wolf. Go out and pee wherever the hell you wanted in the woods, hunt food for free...it'd just be pretty beast. That was part of the reason why he had bought a pet wolf as soon as he turned 18. Styxx was like his other half, his canine side...who happened to be much more smarter than Raiden. "Yo' I'm sorry." He lifted his head and looked to Melanie as he slung his arm around her shoulder and pulled her in for a light hug. "Didn't mean to get worked up. You can call me Rairai; but I swear, if you get anyone else to start callin' me that..." he offered her a warm smile, then released her from the one-armed hug and simply moved on.
Oh shit. So apparently now she was going to pry him for information. Well, he wasn't going to lie to her. So he scratched just underneath his chin as he stared out to gentle waves of the ocean. "Nothing you need to worry your pretty little nose about, m'dear. " He glanced side-ways at her, not helping but to just admire her a little bit. Looking away, he chuckled softly to himself. He no longer felt worthless. Now he just felt like a retard. He felt stupid for even allowing himself become off-guard by Melanie. Why did she have to creep up on him like this? She probably didn't even know how she made him feel. He still couldn't quite tell if it was good or bad - he just knew that he felt this weird tug pulling him to her.
Without realizing it, the male tuned everything out and held a straight stare. His brows furrowed as he just concentrated ahead. Now he really just wanted to know what was going on with him. What if there was that small chance that she liked him back? He knew this was impossible, but it was still nice to think about. She couldn't like him back. If he found out that she did, he would most definitely make a move. He just wouldn't be able to help it. But that just couldn't happen. He had only had one serious relationship before, and it took that for him to realize he had commitment issues. Not only that...but that would mean he'd have to tell Melanie stuff. Like where he really came from. And if she knew that, hell, she wouldn't want a thing to do with him.
Literally shaking himself from his internal monologue, he turned his head towards the female - hoping he hadn't tuned himself out while she was talking. "You're being nice because...? Is that a bad pause? Like...am I so bad that you can't even think of a reason to be nice to me?" For some reason, this made him laugh - hard. He laid backwards and just fell into a laughing fit. Partly the reason was because even he couldn't conjure up a relatively acceptable reason for anyone to treat him nicely. He was a jackhole. He knew it. So did the rest of the world. And he could most definitely understand why Sophia was protective of Melanie.
Sophia...shit. She probably wouldn't approve of him hanging out with Melanie. He had been able to reason with her to allow him to have one chance...but we all knew Raiden would fuck that up. He really would try, though. Maybe Sophia could understand how hard he had to work. Usually Raid never chased after challenges, but this was different. While Melanie was an impossible challenge, he'd still try. Or, at least try until he got a game over. "I'm worth talking to? Oh thank you, dear. While I may disagree, that boosts my self-esteem." The male laughed as he inched himself closer to the edge of the pier.
"Nearly killed you? Multiple times?" That was a big no-no for Raiden. "Who the fuck was driving? Do you have his cab number or name or something? Was he high, or intoxicated? Can I beat the shit out of him?" As often as he and Melanie picked on each other, he was still protective. She was honestly a really worthwhile friend. Plus...it was fun picking on her. He needed someone that could throw it back at him. But what if something had happened? What if that cab driver had caused a serious accident? Just the thought that he even put Melanie in that risk pissed the male off.
Running his hand through his hair, he calmed himself. Everything was fine - Melanie was here, and she was safe. No need to get worked up over it. He took a few breaths before looking to her and smirking. "So, Miss McVayne..." he turned his body to face her before reaching over to poke her lightly. "What would you do if I jumped in the water and brought you along with me?"

IT DOESN'T SEEM FAIR that your wicked words are workin' at holding me down "Fun to have me as a werewolf? What on earth is that supposed to mean?" Melanie arched her eyebrow once more, but still had a grin on her face, which showed that she wasn't as serious about her accusation as she was letting on.
Melanie's heart rate sped up slightly as she felt Raiden wrap his arm around her and pull her in close. "Oh, don't worry Rairai, the entire town'll be calling you by that name before you know it." She was joking, of course. She would not treat him that way. She had a nickname of her own given to her by an old boyfriend, Melly Belly. She was not a particular fan of it, but used it as her username on instant messaging because she didn't want to give the jerk the satisfaction of feeling as though anything associated with him was worth any extra emotion on her part.
Yes, she was quite stubborn.
"Oh come on, you can't expect to say something like that and not talk about it." It frustrated her when people did things like that. It was leading someone on and then leaving them with nothing. She couldn't hold it against Raiden though, no matter how much she tried. Sometimes she wished that she could read minds, just so she could tell what others were thinking. Really, though, the main thing that struck her as odd was the fact that Raiden was normally just as forward about his opinions as she was. The fact that he wasn't telling her only made her want to know that much more, because it had to be something interesting.
"Oh, stop putting yourself down, it's not very attractive." Melanie muttered, not even realizing the implication of her words. Fortunately, he started to laugh afterward, and Melanie could not help but let out a few chuckles herself. Moods were contagious. Melanie had walked off upset, and Raiden had lost control of his temper with her at the start of the conversation. Now, they were both far more relaxed and generally happy. Except for whatever it was that Raiden was not telling her about. That would probably nag her for the rest of the night, if not longer.
Melanie let out a loud laugh as Raiden threatened to beat up the cab driver for her. Unlike most girls, who would beg their guy friends and boyfriends not to embarrass them like that, Melanie just shrugged. "Sure, be my guest. My guess is that he was drunk. Nearly slammed us into a pole, then swerved and almost hit another car." She shook her head, pulling her feet back up out of the water and pulling her legs in close to her. She rested her head on her knees as she looked over at Raiden.
Then she grinned. "Is that a threat? Because that honestly sounds like a threat. To which I have to respond...guess you'll have to see for yourself." Melanie then grabbed ahold of Raiden and launched herself forward into the water.

I AM MY OWN AFFLICTION I AM MY OWN DISEASE THERE AIN'T NO DRUG THAT THEY COULD SELL - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -"I don't know. It'd be cool to be a werewolf. I'd like to be one. So you could be one too?" He wasn't going to really go where he was really getting at with the werewolf thing. It was pretty stupid. But then again...what he had just said wasn't all to clever either. Whatever. He didn't really care. "The whole fuckin' town? God, you must have some serious connections if you can get everyone in town to call me Rairai..." He huffed, playfully, as he crossed his arms along his chest. "Hmph! Rairai...makes me sound like some weak Pokemon or something."
Dammit. She really wasn't about to give this up, was she? Oh well... "Here, I'll make you a promise. I'll tell you what I meant, another time. Alright? When we're in a more serious topic. Let's just have fun and hang out. But I want you to hold me up to it. Remind me, bug me about it, I don't care. But I'd rather relax at the moment." He smiled. That was a promise he could keep. It would give him time to collect himself. To identify whatever feelings he felt towards her. Well, it was pretty obvious he liked her. Damn. Anyone could probably tell. Except for her. She would have probably voiced her opinion about it by now. But then again...that could just be a sign he was doing well at hiding it.
Honestly, Raiden didn't like to hide this from her. He wanted to say something...but he needed to know where she stood before he could open that door. And she had given him the perfect opportunity. "Putting myself down? Is that what you said? Not attractive? As if you were attracted to me anyway. So it shouldn't matter to you, sweetheart." He gave her a light wink, only letting her know he was just picking on her. Well...sort of. It was his way of casually finding out maybe a little bit of how she felt. He wanted her to like him back, but if she didn't...he wanted to at least tell her. And maybe, just maybe, she could at least be one of those kind of friends that wouldn't let it get inbetween their relationship. He really enjoyed her presence.
Just after his last statement, he softly rested his hand on her shoulder. "I will find that cab driver, and I will beat him to a pulp. No lie. I will. Just watch me." Raiden let out another huff as he removed his hand. He couldn't do that. It tortured him enough just having his hand lay on her shoulder. How pathetic was that? Although, with a smile, the male shook his head. "No, not a threat at a-" Before Melanie even allowed him to finish his sentence, she propelled herself into the water - making him tag along with her. As he fell, and caught a noseful and mouthful of water, he took the chance to encircle and lock his arms around her waist. He then surfaced up to the water and smirked. "Oh, boy are you in for it Miss McVayne..."

IT DOESN'T SEEM FAIR that your wicked words are workin' at holding me down Well, if he was willing to become a werewolf as well, she didn't see a problem with that. It would certainly make her life more interesting. Not to mention she didn't really want to go through the adventure alone. If she had the chance to go through it with someone else, why the hell not? Not that werewolves existed anyway.
Then again, who was to say they didn't exist? The Greek Pantheon supposedly didn't exist, yet there she was, the reincarnation of Persephone. If she was the reincarnation of Persephone, that meant that Persephone had to have existed somewhere across the line. Melanie had chosen not to do much research on the subject of the Queen of the Underworld, and rather let the information come to her. Melanie had to admit that it was an impressive title. She wasn't sure how much she liked the idea of being held prisoner by a guy for three months out of the year. Well, not so much a "guy"...the God of the Underworld himself, Hades. Oddly, Melanie's memories about her relationship with Hades were still floating somewhere beneath the surface. Melanie hated to think that she was anyone's prisoner, but for all she knew Persephone could have been down there willingly. She wouldn't know unless she found out, and this sorely made her want to go to the library to take out a few books on the matter. She managed to resist temptation thus far...
Melanie intended to hold Raiden to his words. She wanted to know what on Earth was on his mind. However, she could also understand his point. She didn't want to ruin a good mood with something potentially serious. As much as it killed her, she decided to let it go for the time being. She could bug him about it later.
Right now? They were soaking wet and treading water. Not exactly the best time to be having a serious conversation.
Melanie let out a yelp of surprise when Raiden came up right behind her with his arms around her waist. Then she laughed in spite of herself. "Now that was a threat. Bring it on, Lancaster." With that, she ducked under the water herself, and hopefully out of his arms. She wasn't going to give in that easily. At this point, she didn't even care that her clothes were soaked, and that he was probably at an advantage due to his lack of a shirt. She was just having fun, something she needed after a long night. TAG: Raiden WORD COUNT: 424 NOTES: Sorry it took me so long. I AM MY OWN AFFLICTION I AM MY OWN DISEASE THERE AIN'T NO DRUG THAT THEY COULD SELL - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -Raiden sort of side-glared at Melanie, knowing all too well that she was going to bug the hell out of him. And right now, he could say that he was fine with it. Later, when it would actually come to the time where she'd remind him of his promise, he'd more than likely get just a little more than annoyed. But whatever. No time worry about that. He had more important things on his mind.
A mischievous smile thinned on the male's lips as Melanie yelped. He was satisfied now that he had gotten a reaction from her. "It was not a threat! I was simply calling you out." He laughed, accepting the her challenge. Although she had caught him off guard when she ducked into the water - causing him to lose his own balance and fall under. Once again, he caught a mouthful of saltwater and quickly resurfaced himself. He thought about giving her a head start. Nah. A challenge was a challenge.
So with that, he waited. Raiden examined the water patterns, and then dove into the water after the female. He opened his eyes underneath the water, hoping that the pier lights were just enough to see some of the shadows in the water. He noticed some slight movement, and raced after it. He took it in his hands, and then resurfaced. "Just great..." The male held a flounder at his fingertips as it flailed and released itself from his grip. He glared at the water, and then waited for Melanie to resurface. "So, if I can catch you, do I get a prize? Because I have one in mind." He gave her a light wink, letting her think that he just might be pulling one of his tricks. He wasn't. The prize he wanted was just a simple question - if she'd go to the Annual Ball with him. Even if it were just as friends.

IT DOESN'T SEEM FAIR that your wicked words are workin' at holding me down Of course she was going to bug the heck out of him! One couldn't make a comment like that and not expect the other party to be incredibly curious.
Melanie also realized that he would be annoyed with her when she finally mentioned the promise, but she already had a few ideas to add to her arsenal. She figured she would keep working at it until she wore him down enough that he would spill. She knew it wouldn't happen easily. She also knew that she'd probably have to offer something in return. She was willing to participate in this charade, to some extent, although she certainly had a few secrets she wanted to keep nice and safe as well. Everyone did, it seemed. Melanie kept an eye on the movements with the water, and made certain that she was ready to swim off if she noticed any movement headed in her direction. Not that she was particularly worried about fish, but she had a certain male to avoid!
Eventually, though, after not sighting much movement, Melanie did have to rise to the surface to catch her breath. She could only hope that Raiden would not be ready to pounce on her at that moment. He heart lurched when she saw that Raiden was indeed waiting at the surface, but was surprised to hear that rather than pouncing on her right away, he was asking for a reward.
Melanie ran a hand through her now soaking wet hair, and arched an eyebrow at Raiden's proposition. "I think that's fair." Life wasn't exactly fair, so why make things more unfair than they needed to be? Of course, she was under the impression that Raiden's "prize" would be something sexual in nature, but she supposed it was only fair as she was toying with him. Not to mention, though she doubted she would ever mention this to him...the prospect of sleeping with Raiden Lancaster did not seem so bad anymore. Not that it ever did, if Melanie had to be honest with herself...
With this thought in mind, Melanie returned Raiden's wink and ducked underwater once more.
