lexi freeman wasn’t exactly in the best mood at this point. she was late for work, and had tripped over many boxes in the process, plus she had decided to put off her literature homework until the absolute last minute, as usual. she would most likely get it done at work, since nobody ever came in to the bookstore in the first place. the invention of the internet, and all this technology made reading books almost obsolete. that was something lexi hated, since she loved to read more than anything. and she enjoyed books more than reading something on the internet, though on occasion she indulged in the occasional tabloid magazine, they were her guilty pleasure, though she would never admit that she actually enjoyed reading them. it was one of those things that she hid from the rest of the world, and she would totally deny it if anybody found out. everyone seemed to think that all lexi did was read, work, and do homework, and not actually enjoy herself from time to time. however, between school, work, and homework, lexi rarely had time to do that.
it was too bad, actually, because lexi really wanted to have some semblance of a social life, and currently she really didn’t have one. at this point, school was becoming her life, and work was just an afterthought, since her job wasn’t really that hard, all she had to do was act happy and help people out if they ever needed it. pointing people to one section of the store or another was really not that difficult. besides, she had been recently been promoted to part time assistant manager in addition to sales associate. which pretty much meant that she did the same job, just more hours and lexi could boss people around on occasion. she wasn’t exactly the most bossy person ever, but still, a pay raise meant that she could finally afford to live on her own. at twenty-two, it was about time for her to have her own place. too bad that at this point her apartment was a total mess, filled with boxes that had yet to be unpacked. pretty much the only stuff that had actually been unpacked were her textbooks, and clothes. after all, she spent more time at school and work than she did at her own house, so it only made sense that nothing was where it was supposed to be. that was the way lexi’s life went, nothing was how it was supposed to be.
lexi’s life plan did not involve thousands of dollars of student loans, since she had no way of paying them off other than growing a magical money tree. but she was convinced that one day it would be worth it. lexi had always wanted to be a writer, and while it wasn’t exactly the highest paying job in the world, she liked it more than anything else. while it seemed that sometimes all the homework and lack of social life weren’t worth it, she knew that one day it would be. being able to do what she wanted was all that mattered to lexi. she didn’t want to be holed up in an office once she graduated, that all seemed much too dull and boring. being able to do something that mattered, and that she enjoyed was all that life was about to her. though it seemed at this point that she would be living in a cardboard box once she graduated. sixteen years of school, and all she would be getting was a piece of paper that said that she was smart and managed to make it without shooting herself. lexi knew that having a degree didn’t mean everything, but it still would help her in the future, at least this way, if the writing didn’t work out, she had something to fall back on, even if it wasn’t where she wanted to be.
for example, she didn’t want to be behind the customer service counter at barnes and noble, but it was her job. at least she had her employee discount, which she used to excess on occasion. of course having a discount on all the books and music she wanted was probably the best thing to happen to lexi since she got accepted to graduate school. it was so boring in the store that the only thing lexi could think to do was her homework that she had been putting off for the last week. writing a ten page paper on iambic pentameter wasn’t what she wanted to be doing. the only person that could tolerate her complaining was logan, and she hadn’t seen him in weeks. then again, they were both so busy with work and school. thankfully, they had dinner that weekend, giving them a chance to finally catch up after a very long few weeks. besides, she needed somebody to vent to, and nobody else could put up with her bitching about school and life in general.

you know that i could use somebody !TAGGED lexibabyyy WORDS 628 TEMPLATE PANIC! IT'S LAUZ @ CAUTION NOTES aww<3 SOMEONE LIKE YOU AND ALL YOU KNOW AND HOW YOU SPEAK COUNTLESS LOVERS UNDER COVER OF THE STREET YOU KNOW THAT I COULD USE SOMEBODY OFF IN THE NIGHT WHILE YOU LIVE IT UP I'M OFF TO SLEEP WAGING WARS TO SHAKE someone like you !logan whelan rolled his eyes at the man in the mirror. it was himself, only with a five o'clock shadow and bags under his eyes. sure, he had worked the overnight shift last night, and was about to do it again tonight. being an intern in a hospital was taking a toll on the twenty five year old. the only thing he really had going for him was the thought of visiting lexi before work. the two had known each other for a while, but it wasn't until recently that he admitted to himself that she was something else. he was smitten with the blonde girl, and was giving up his coffee time to visit her at work.
shaking the can of shaving creme, he yawned slightly and then squirted it into his hand before lathering up his face. once, his face was free of any stubble he went into his room and pulled out his scrubs. he landed on dark blue ones for the night and quickly changed into them. after running his hand through his dark hair, he figured the messy style was good enough and shook his head around a little. logan then slid some shoes on his feet and started fixing himself up some dinner. grilled cheese was the final decision, with a glass of coke. grilled cheese was a staple for the young man and it was pretty much all he ever ate. sure, he could make other things, but grilled cheese was easy and quick. he never saw the need to make huge meals when it was only him eating them.
which was why he was thinking about the upcoming weekend. he was going to have lexi freeman, the girl who kept him awake at night, in his apartment for dinner. sure, it wasn't a date, or at least he didn't think it was; but he still needed to impress her some how. looking around his apartment he decided he needed to clean it up a little, but that would wait because currently he was going to be late to visit the young woman at work, which would mean less time he got to spend around her.
sure, it was weird for him to finally be admitting his feelings to himself. she in his english class his senior year of undergrad. he was only taking english then to fulfill his credit requirements, and she was simply taking an english because it is required. they sat next to each other and got assigned partners for an in class discussion and their friendship took off from there. then he went on to grad school, but they always made time to keep in touch. however, once they both began grad school, and his internships got more intense they slowly stopped keeping in touch so much. which was something that made logan sad, he was almost worried that they would lose touch all together and that would be that. however, she didn't seem to want that to happen, which gave him hope.
after driving to the mall, he got out of his car and locked it. he was getting used to parking near the bookstore, since it was where the blonde worked, and really the only place in the mall he ever went. he was a guy, and guys don't shop. walking in the store, he noticed her behind the counter, working on what he was assuming, her homework. she didn't seem to notice her so he picked up the closest book and walked over to her. looking down, he seemed to grab "what to expect when you're expecting", and he smirked. "um, excuse me ma'am. i'm thinking about buying this book. is it a good read?" he gave her a smile and a slight laugh.

lexi really did not want to be working at that moment. she was underslept, and much too overcaffineated to function. two frappucinos and a red bull later, she was jittery, uncomfortable, and not looking forward to opening the store. arcade fire was blasting through the speakers, her choice of music of course. hopefully indie rock would help wake her up after a long night of studying and homework. why had she made the stupid decision to take summer classes? it would have been so much easier to take more time in school and not pressure herself so much. but then again, she just wanted to be done, and live her life the way she wanted to. which to lexi meant not being stuck selling books for the rest of her life. she wanted to be writing novels, not sitting behind a counter selling self-help books to middle-aged women, which to be honest were the only people that came in on weekday mornings. and this morning seemed to be exceptionally dull and boring. nobody was at the mall, and all lexi wanted to do was take a nap. but sadly for her, she was working by herself for the next three hours, which meant three hours without a break or anything to do.
thankfully, it meant time for lexi to do the english homework that was due that afternoon, and at least try to make it look like she had read the poem she was supposed to be analyzing. having gone over it multiple times, she still didn’t understand the meaning, nor did she exactly care to. lexi was in no way a poet, she loved creative writing, and that was why she wanted to be an english major. but that meant dealing with all aspects of the language, including the ones she didn’t really understand or enjoy. taking a sip of her frappucino, and writing down the answer to one of her questions, she pondered the coming weekend. she was supposed to be having dinner with logan whelan. the guy she had a huge crush on since her freshman year of undergrad practically. which to her seemed like forever ago. he was in her lit class, of course. they had been group partners for pretty much that whole term and had gotten to know each other pretty well. but after that, he went off to medical school, and lexi finished roseneath. so pretty much, they only saw each other every few weeks, which wasn’t exactly how lexi wanted their relationship to be. they had been “just friends” for so many years, and by now, she felt like it really should be something else. besides, he was cooking for her, at his place. that had to mean something, right? of course, her apartment was sort of off limits for that kind of thing, considering she had yet to finish unpacking.
lexi hadn’t quite finished her homework, but she still had plenty of her shift left to go, so a break was certainly in order. there was no way that she was going to make it through this shift if all she was doing was homework. staring down at the assignment sheet, she was much too overwhelmed to actually put any effort in to it. why did the professors have to give so much homework, especially during the summer? didn’t they realize that students needed to work, and be social in order to function properly? or at least that’s what lexi had read somewhere on the internet while not doing her homework. hearing a male voice, she looked up from her work, and was pleasantly surprised by logan, who ironically was holding a copy of “what to expect when you’re expecting.” ”well, i’ve heard it has some good advice, though i have never needed it,” lexi replied, sarcastically, with a little bit of a laugh. just seeing him was enough to make her entire day better. logan could always brighten her day, and make her feel less alone at work. having been bored off her ass for most of the day so far, this was exactly what she needed at that point. lexi hated being by herself, and having a visit from the guy she liked since freshman year certainly was a way to make her feel better.

you know that i could use somebody !TAGGED lexibabyyy WORDS 428 TEMPLATE PANIC! IT'S LAUZ @ CAUTION NOTES its so short. but i just wanted to get something up. sorrrrrrrrry
SOMEONE LIKE YOU AND ALL YOU KNOW AND HOW YOU SPEAK COUNTLESS LOVERS UNDER COVER OF THE STREET YOU KNOW THAT I COULD USE SOMEBODY OFF IN THE NIGHT WHILE YOU LIVE IT UP I'M OFF TO SLEEP WAGING WARS TO SHAKE someone like you !logan struggled to find the words to say. she really was perfect. she had the sense of humor that matched his perfectly. not to mention she was gorgeous. he was amazed by her good looks and then finally realized he hadn't responded to her statement. "ah well, i don't think its exactly what i'm looking for. but, maybe next time." he smiled and then placed the book back, where it belonged. normally he would just throw it anywhere, but he didn't want to make more work for her. considering she did have quite the amount of homework to get done.
looking over at the pile of papers she had in front of her he smiled. she was in her first year of grad school. something he didn't quite miss. logan hopped up on the counter and looked over at her. "still battling the never ending english homework?" picking up the papers and reading them over, he smirked. she was very smart when it came to english. something he had to give her tons of credit for. logan himself was a science and math guy, hence the whole becoming a doctor thing. thinking about becoming a doctor, he checked his phone. he shift would be starting soon, something he secretly didn't want for two reasons. one, because it was work, and he really felt like being lazy today. two, was because it was less time he would get to spend with lexi until the weekend.
"ms. freeman, you should feel proud. i am giving up my coffee time to come and chat about stupid books with you." he laughed and placed her homework back down. shakespere was something he never wanted to deal with, just thinking about it made his brain hurt. then he reached for the next book closest to him. logan whelan acted like a child sometimes, having to touch and play with everything that was close to him. he was a big child at heart, trying to learn how to grow up.
looking down at the book he had grabbed, it was some book club book he was sure. for the older women who had no romance in their lives and had to read about silly fake ones to make themselves feel better. it was one of those paperback books with the couples in a risky pose on the front cover. "this your favorite book?" his left eyebrow raised slightly with his question and he laughed. wondering really if that type of romance stuff was what the blonde wanted, or if she thought it was as dumb as some of his other friends did.

after an exhausting evening trying to get as much homework done as possible, work was probably the last place lexi wanted to be. but the fact that logan had come and visited her made her day so much better. and he probably had better things to be doing. like saving people’s lives. exactly how he managed to balance everything, and still have time for a little bit of a social life baffled lexi. she still had boxes to unpack, and the neverending pile of english homework to get done. if it wasn’t one thing, it was something else. this was probably the last place she wanted to be. lexi just wanted to be on her date, or whatever it was with logan. she really wasn’t sure where she stood with him. obviously he was exactly what she wanted in a guy, and not to mention fairly attractive. not that she just went by appearance. lexi cared much more about personality than anything else. and the fact that logan had a great sense of humor helped that.
however, while lexi liked him, a lot, she wasn’t so sure how she felt about having a relationship at this point. neither of them had much in the way of free time. but then again, she wasn’t sure how logan felt about her. the fact that he was willing to take time out of his obviously very busy day to visit her must have meant something. ”ugh. yes. the neverending english homework. it will get done eventually, and by that i mean ten minutes before class tomorrow,” lexi replied with a laugh. that was usually how she got her work done, and so far it was a pretty good strategy. the only class lexi had failed was statistics her sophomore year. and really, who wanted to spend their time looking at numbers and case studies that had nothing to do with real life? that was why lexi loved literature, she could write something that people could actually relate to and have it make sense. however, in order to achieve that dream, she would have to actually pass her classes and graduate. being a first year student sucked, it seemed that nobody actually understood that she was capable of anything, and her graduate internship was stocking books in the library. thank god she actually had a real job and could pay the bills on her own. barely, for that matter, but she managed.
”why i do feel proud mr. whelan, i realize that your coffee time is important to you, and the fact that you would rather be here than consuming caffeine says a lot. and these books aren’t stupid. well, most of them are, but it’s my work, i have no choice,” lexi replied, realizing that she had begun to ramble, like she typically did when she got sort of nervous or when she was around someone that she was trying to impress. not that she really had to impress logan, but obviously making a good impression on him was key to whatever they were doing that coming saturday, lexi was still trying to figure out if it was a date or not. and of course, whether it was or not determined her wardrobe choice, one of the more important decisions she had to make.
staring at the romance novel that logan had just picked up, lexi had to crack up laughing. thankfully there was nobody else in the store, so she didn’t feel quite so embarrassed. ”haha, no. i wouldn’t be caught dead reading something like that. i’m not a desperate middle aged woman,” lexi replied, raising her eyebrow. hopefully logan wasn’t serious about that comment, because while she enjoyed her trashy novels now and then, she wanted to be taken seriously, and would never actually read something of that sort. if lexi was going to read bad literature, it would be murder mysteries, at least they had substance. ”so, how’s life?” lexi asked. she felt sort of bad that she always talked about herself and complained about her homework to logan, and never actually asked about how he was doing, with all his school and work. life didn’t revolve around lexi, though sometimes she wanted it to, that wasn’t really how things worked for the most part.
