WE'LL HIT SOUTH BROADWAY IN A MATTER OF MINUTES & LIKE A BAD MOVIE I'LL DROP A LINE FALL IN THE GRAVE I'VE BEEN DIGGING MYSELF BUT THERE'S ROOM FOR TWO SIX FEET UNDER THE STARS
Waking up was always the hardest part of going to work. Jack could hear the alarm go off, though he honestly wished it would just turn itself off. He extended his long arm and tapped the button, the silence was something Jack admired. When he was young, his father use to tell him, "Sleeping is a gateway for dreams. Dreams is a gateway to your own mind." Sometimes Jack wished he never could have heard the saying in the first place. Jack sat up in his bed and gazed around his plain, white room and rubbed his face. The time was 7:00 o'clock pm. Jack was a nocturnal kind of guy. He loved the night more then the day. He believed if you saw someone in the light, you'd see who they really were.
Jack was quick with getting ready. All he needed was a pair of dark denim pants, his cowboy boots, a shirt and his jacket. He quickly went downstairs to the first level of his apartment and looked around his kitchen for anything that looked like it could be eaten at that moment. Nothing. Fuck it. He thought and grabbed his keys and headed out into the night. California was his home, nothing could ever beat the west coast. Jack reached his car and got in with one quick motion. He started the car and set off to his bar. Jack owned a bar in the middle of town. It wasn't anything special, seeing as the name of the bar was simply, Jack's Bar. He liked it simply and easy. Jack breathed in deeply as he stopped at a red light and tapped the steering wheel. Jack didn't really worry about a lot but lately, something had been on his mind. Jack had been having these dreams...
Dreams of him standing on a throne of gold and twelve other people sitting around with him. Jack's was the biggest and all he can remember is feeling a jolt of something surge through his hands. He would wake up and feel something funny in his hand. Jack finally got the green light and drove off. When Jack finally got to his bar, people were already there setting up for the night. The bar opened at eight and usually the bar would always be packed. Jack got out his car and walked in to his familiar looking, second home. Jack loved his bar. He loved the old wood and the pillars that held up the old piece of crap, but he loved it. He walked out to the back and was greeted by his workers. He took his jacket off and soon enough, eight o'clock rolled by and the bar was packed. Jack was already at work, getting drinks ready and helping out customers.
This bar was his life. He'd put his heart and soul into it...

Going out. That was something this twenty year old knew a lot of. Sydney Ellis was known for her party lifestyle and for her slutty behavior. However, she only saw it as fun. There was no reason to have a boyfriend. In her eyes, having a boyfriend meant getting attatched, and getting attached only resulted in getting hurt. So, therefore, she just had the occasional fling, but mainly she just kept them at an arm's distance.
Tonight was no different night for Syd. She was going out with some girlfriends with the hope of a boy taking them home. That was the thought process in which she thought. It just made sense. Boys bought girls the expensive booze in hopes to win them over and take them home. For her, it was a win-win situation.
It was eight o'clock and she had just gotten the text about where they were going, so she was going to be a bit rushed getting ready. Digging through her closets, she couldn't figure out what to wear. Should she go semi-casual with jeans and a cute shirt? Or, should she dress it up a little, show some leg. After trying on about seven different outfits, her decision landed on a purple little dress and a black belt. Then came the even more difficult part, what in the world was she going to wear on her feet? Having over fifty pairs of heels and shoes made this decision a little difficult.
By the time it was nine, she had finally decided on simple black heels. It was a long process to get up to that point, and the blonde was happy with her decision. Then came her make up. Since her friends would be here in about a half hour for some pre-gaming. (Yes, it was so college of her.) She decided on simple make up, and her hair in a ponytail. Nothing too fancy, since she was wearing a dress after all.
After her and her friends, were just buzzed enough, they headed out. The bar was always a fun place to go. However, being only twenty, Sydney had to put her fake i.d. to work. When they arrived at the bar, there was already a ton of people there, but she didn't care since she knew the owner and all. She and Jack were old friends, having met one summer when she was eleven and he was fourteen. Ever since then they had kept in touch, with facebook and what not, but every once in a while they would months without talking.
Walking in the bar, she caught the eyes of a couple of guys but was only looking for her friend. Even though she had lived in California for a year now, she had never really made it over to his bar. She always told him she would, but other things came up. It wasn't that Sydney didn't want to see Jack, it was just there were other boys and other things to do. Finally, she noticed him and walked over, wondering if he would recognize her. "Guess who finally made it to come see you." She said giving him a smile, her buzz feeling a slight bit stronger than when she left with her friends. It could have been that the vodka was finally hitting her all the way, or the fact that she never remembered him looking that good. It was certainly a pleasant surprise.

Jack had been getting smashed with all the yelling and orders from obnoxious drunks all night. He sighed under his breath as the next douche bag ordered another shot of vodka. Why can't I hire more bartenders? He thought to himself. If he hired more, he'd have to pay more. Money wasn't really a problem since when his parents died, they left behind a big chunk of cash for Jack. He just liked the fact that he could put his hard earned effort into it. He poured another glass of beer for a guy and finally took a step back from all the chaos. He watched as people talked and danced. He gazed and saw beautiful women, ugly women and the downright disturbing. He poured himself a shot of jack and downed it like it was nothing.
Jack heard a voice talking to him and turned his gaze to a beautiful blonde women. Her skin looked soft and her eyes were beautiful. She was wearing a gorgeous purple dress, which perfectly showed her figure...and it was good. Jack didn't recognize her at first, then saw the 11 year old girl her remembered. "Holy fuck...Sydney?" He made someone from the back work bartending. He took his jacket off, revealing a white shirt, which showed off his tattoo's and his muscular arms quite well. He walked up to the beautiful blonde and finally smiled. "Your gorgeous." He smirked and gave her a hug. He held her and could smell her perfume. It was intoxicating...
He held onto her hand and guided her over to a table, where there wasn't a lot of people hanging around, somewhere a bit more quiet. He pulled out her seat so she could sit and walked over to his and sat down, across from her. Honestly the entire time, he couldn't stop smiling. "How have you been? It's been...way too long since I've seen you." He wanted to ask her thousands of questions but didn't want to frighten her by being weird. He remembered being on the beach with his parents. He was playing in the water and he saw a girl building a sand castle. A couple of boys walked over and broke down the little girls sand castle. They laughed at her and called her names and all Jack could remember was him running over and trying to defend the girl. He found out two things that day he first met Sydney. He found out how hard a punch was...and he met the girl who would forever change his life.

Sydney couldn’t help but laugh at the confusion in his face. She certainly had changed from the eleven year old girl on the beach. She no longer had braces for one, and her hair was no longer in pigtail braids. Nor did she let boys get away with knocking down her sand castles. She also didn’t have boys sticking up for her now, though Jack was different. He was the only boy who ever really stuck up for her, and from his reaction she felt he still might if she ever needed it. Her brown eyes ran over his arms and her tongue wet her lips a little. It was a stupid habit, but she couldn’t help it. He certainly wasn’t the scrawny little boy he was once. ”You’re not too bad yourself handsome.” She said smiling and gladly accepting his hug. He smelt of alcohol, and cologne. Something she always loved in a man, but his was different. Assuming it was just because it had been forever since she had last seen him, she just let the thought out of her mind as quickly as it had come in.
She allowed him to take her hand and guide him over to a table, looking at other guys on their way. No one said she had to stop looking because she was visiting an old friend. Even though, she wouldn’t mind him taking her home for a night, even though their friendship would probably be awkward after that, but she didn’t mind if he didn’t. Sitting across from him, a smile crossed her glossed lips. His smile was contagious, and she couldn’t get over how much had changed. Sure she looked at his facebook pictures every once in a while and what not, but they sure didn’t do him justice. She nodded at his statement about it being way too long, agreeing with him mainly because it had.
”Oh, I know, its been about eight years since my last vacation with my family here. But, I’ve been wonderful. About to start my junior year of college. “ She shrugged a little sounding very young suddenly. Here she was with a boy she had known forever, who owned his own bar, and she off being a college student drinking and sleeping around all the time. She brushed the feeling off and then smiled again. ”What about you Mr. Bartender?” She laughed a little and then thought for a second. She was at a bar, with nothing to drink. Surely there was something wrong with that picture.
Sydney Ellis was always drinking. Well, not all the time, but the majority of the time. It was what her and her friends did. Trying to get alcohol off her mind she went back to thinking about Jack. It was so weird. The last time she had saw him, was eight years ago. She was twelve and he was still the scrawny boy he was two years earlier. The only difference was, he was taller and his voice was deeper. Now though, he was attractive. Syd might even go far enough to say he was hot. It took a lot for boys to get that much approval.

"Life is...acceptable." People always saw Jack as the strong independent and that was alright by him. He never really needed others to look out for him, because no one did in the first place. "It's interesting how I turned my family's fortune..." He gazes around his bar and smiles. "Into this." He laughs and then hears something happening at the bar. He turns his gaze from Sydney, which he would never choose to do and saw two guys getting into each others face. Jack sighed and stood up without saying a word. He pushed the chair in and held a finger up to Sydney, signaling that he would be back in one minute. As he got down to the bar, the fight had escalated quicker then he thought and punches were being thrown. Jack made it right in time to push the guy out of the way and receive the punch to his face.
Jack fell to one knee and everybody grew quiet. He breathed in slowly and could feel his muscles start to tighten up. He felt the blood in his mouth and could taste the bitterness of the blood. He closed his eyes and could see only...lightning. He opened his eyes and felt stronger then usual. He stood up slowly and could feel every part of his body grow stronger. He looked at the guy who punched him and he just smirked at Jack. He tried to get others to smile with him but the crowd knew better. Jack smirked and crossed his arms. "Why would you do that? Everyone was having a good time and you and this dip shit had to start something...in my bar." The guy didn't know what to say. It was as if he couldn't speak. Jack uncrossed his arms and took a step towards the guy. Jack knew what he was doing, he just waited for the other guy to slip up.
As Jack took another step, the guy wanted to throw another punch. With each step, the guy clenched his fist harder. Jack smirked, turned around and looked at Sydney. In that moment he just wanted to see her. He didn't care if the guy had a knife on him. For some reason, he just wanted to see...her. The guy finally mustered enough courage to take another punch at Jack. He quickly turned around and dodged the guys punch so easily. Jack pulled back his arm and gave this dude the nastiest punch, anyone had ever seen. The guy fell to the floor and was knocked out. People clapped and went back to drinking and having a good time. Jack waved over a few bouncers to take the guy out. He walked back up to Sydney and sat down."I bet you enjoyed that..." He said with a small smirk.

Sydney listened about his life and was shocked. He got his family’s fortune and turned it into a bar: a very successful one at that. She was proud of him and was about to compliment him on it as he took her gaze off her and to the bar where two men were bickering. She could see her friends laughing to the side and couldn’t help but let out a little giggle her self. It seemed they knew exactly what they were fighting about, and she couldn’t wait until later when they told her. Her eyes watched as Jack went up, and she almost asked him not to, but instead she just nodded at his finger and watched him walk away. She smiled, the view was nice, but she secretly wanted him to come back.
Sydney jumped slightly when Jack got punched. She had a strange urge to run up and make sure he was okay. The same way she had run up to him when he got punched at the beach, for defending her and her sandcastle. But, instead she just ignored the feeling. He was just an old friend, nothing to get worried about not to mention he was a man who could take care of himself, clearly as he stood up. The blonde couldn’t believe it; he looked almost majestic, as if he were a god or something. It amazed her and she watched his mouth move, the words flowed out of his mouth like butter.
The next thing was what caught the girl off guard the most. Jack actually punched someone and knocked him out. One single punch from her friends’ fist and the guy was on the ground. She had to admit, it was pretty intimidating, and sexy. She clapped slightly along with the others and watched as he walked back over. ”I have to admit. It was pretty entertaining. Are you okay though?” She had to ask adjusting herself slightly in her seat. It made her uncomfortable that she cared so much. It was out of her nature to worry about a boy, let alone make sure he was all right.
”I do have to ask. Why is it that you are always getting punched when I’m around? I’m a curse.” She giggled slightly, and smiled. Sydney then heard a song she loved and watched a group of people get up and start dancing to the music. Some of the dancers were awful, and it almost made Sydney’s eyes hurt to watch them. Others were pretty good, and her friends were just funny. Her brown eyes then moved from them to her and she stood up, walking around to be in front of him.
Holding her hand out, she looked him in the eye, the feeling of seduction and desire coming over her. It always did when she was with a guy she would want to be with. Sydney wondered though if this should be happening with Jack of all people, since she had a different type of connection with him. ”Lets dance.” She said smiling and taking his hand, pulling him out to where the other drunken people were dancing. She was smiling and laughing while she moved her body to the music, in perfect rhythm. ”Do you remember when we danced together at the fireworks?” She asked remembering it like it was yesterday. They were at the fireworks and people around them were playing music from their radios. And Jack asked her to dance, and they slow danced at the fireworks. It was very corny, but Sydney loved every moment of it.

He smirked at her comment on how he always gets punched whenever he's around her. He breathed in slowly and touched the part of his face where he got hit. He honestly couldn't feel the pain anymore. It was as if he never got punched in the first place. "Maybe it's because I care about your saftey to much." Jack smiled and gazed into her beautiful eyes. She had amazing blue eyes which made any guy want to stare into them for days. He then moved his gaze to her lips and then lower...Her voice suddenly hit as she asked to dance. Jack smiled jokingly, then saw her getting up.
"Shit, your serious?" He took her hand as she led him down to the dance floor. He could see others watching him, mostly women. He liked the attention at times but usually it just annoyed him. He breathed in deeply as he watched her dance for a bit. He knew how to dance, just not that well. He peered around and saw a few of his workers, standing and watching him. They were all probably ready to start laughing. They knew better not to cause they'd lose there jobs. Jack could feel her hand touch his and everything went away. His focus was on her and everything that he was just thinking evaporated. He wrapped his arms around her as she moved with his body in perfect harmony.
He moved his hands down, just teasing her lightly. "Of course." He smiled at her and remembered the first time they danced. It was during the summer they first met. There was a gigantic party out on the beach. Teenagers and kids were running around, waiting to do something there parents would probably hate if they found out. Jack had been wondering by himself that night and didn't want to be near his parents...or anyone for that matter. He could feel someone watching him, the paranoia kicked in and he turned to see the girl he got punched for, standing a few feet behind him. He watched her for a few seconds and then walked towards her. He remembered how she always smiled back then.
When they finally playing music, Jack freaked a bit. He didn't like being with a lot of people, especially crowded areas. He started to walk away, but Sydney grabbed his hand before he could walk off. Jack turned and felt...warm. He looked down at her and felt like he could do anything when he was with her. She guided him to the big party and they danced with each other, practically all night. He remembered staying up late, running on the beach with her as they talked and played. They didn't need to be with other kids, or go to stupid parties...
All they had at that moment, was each other.
